Artists Spotlight: Irawo Osa

Born in Cuba, Irawo Osa is at the forefront of blending Afro-Cuban musical traditions with Latin Jazz. At the heart of the ensemble are two cousins Yuniscleyvis and Jaime Ramos, prodigious talents, and members of the famed Cuban rumba group, Los Muñequitos de Matanzas

The ensemble creates unique soundscapes by fusing a diverse range of musical styles including Latin jazz, rock and roll, African rhythms, and traditional Cuban music.

Before uniting under the banner of Irawo Osa, members of the group graced stages worldwide, showcasing their mastery in Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, and France including recent performances in the United States at the GroundUP Music Festival in Miami.

Now based in South Florida, the group continues to evolve and move audiences with its rich musical heritage. Composed of new immigrants who have lived the culture since birth, each of the seven members is a steward of folklore, bringing the spirits of their ancestors to life through music.  In 2021, Irawo Osa was nominated for the Cubadisco Awards, a renowned competition with awards in many categories plus performances, an international symposium, workshops, and discussion forums.

Their first Afro-Cuban Jazz album, Irawo Osa: los Hijos de la Rumba, is masterfully crafted with piano, guitar, a drum kit, and the resonant beats of bata drums and Afro-Cuban percussion, including the iconic clave.
