Rumba: María Regla

 

During a visit to Cuba in May, 2016 Clave Y Cuba founder, Ivan Moreno had the privilege of filming an exclusive video for a song titled María Regla performed by Los Muñequitos de Matanzas.

 

The port city of Matanzas is the cradle of rumba and the home of one of the country’s most legendary and long-lasting ensembles, the Muñequitos de Matanzas. During a visit to Cuba in May 2016 Clave Y Cuba founder, Ivan Moreno had the privilege of filming an exclusive video for a song titled María Regla performed by Los Muñequitos de Matanzas.

The Cuban rumba ensemble from the city of Matanzas was established in 1952 as Conjunto Guaguancó Matancero. Los Muñequitos trajectory makes them icons in the rumba world. A timeless sound captivated the world when they released their first LP in 1956 through Puchito. Several Rumba greats from Matanzas have been vocal leads of the group including Esteban Lantri “Saldiguera”, Hortensio Alfonso “ Virulilla”, Juan Bosco, Alberto Romero Diaz, Rafael Navarro Pujada, Israel Berrier Gonzalez, Israel Berrier Jimenez, Ricardo Cane, Reyniel Lopez and Cuba Y Clave’s very own Musical Director, José Andro Mella Bosch.

Over the past 7 decades, the group has performed and recorded, becoming one of the most successful and critically acclaimed rumba groups of all time.
