Clave Y Cuba’s NYC Collective at The Shed: Summer Sway Edition
This summer, Clave Y Cuba had the opportunity to participate in The Shed's Summer Sway program, an event series that brings together some of NYC's top DJs, musicians, dancers, and performers. In partnership with José Parlá of Parlá Studios, Clave Y Cuba celebrated the relationship and influence from rumba to mambo, mambo to hip hop in NYC during the final Friday of the series.
On August 16, The Shed's outdoor Plaza was transformed into a cultural immersion in traditional Cuban folkloric music and dance.
Clave Y Cuba’s New York Collective delivered a captivating rumba set featuring master percussionist Roman Diaz, alongside Isabel Estrada Jamison’s powerful interpretation of the Orisha Oya’s dance, accompanied by the sacred Bata drums.
The rhythms resonated fiercely throughout the heavily trafficked High Line. DJ Marcus Logan added global sounds and a hip-hop vibe, keeping everyone joyfully celebrating on the dance floor.
The closing event showcased the power of music to unite international communities with shockwaves of loving sounds.
