Rumba en el Barrio!

What a way to wrap up summer! Clave Y Cuba teamed up with El Museo Del Barrio to present Rumba en el Barrio! featuring our New York-based collective of musicians.

The grand finale of the Uptown Bounce series was held on 104th Street and 5th Avenue in front of Central Park. The vibes were unmatched!

New York’s leading Afro-Cuban Rumberos put on a memorable show. DJs Taina Enikeyi and Marcus Logan kept the party going with their Latin and Afro-Caribbean sounds.

The crowd was a fantastic mix of locals from all generations, enthusiastic visitors, cultural ambassadors, and community members who connected deeply with the Cuban Rumba. It was a beautiful blend of old-school fans and new faces, all coming together to celebrate this vibrant musical tradition.

New York has been the heart of the rumba scene in the U.S. since the 1950s, influencing the mambo era in Spanish Harlem and the Bronx. It was incredible to see that rich legacy continue to thrive and bring people together.

The night also featured free exhibition tours of Amalia Mesa-Bains: Archaeology of Memory and Cuerpo: Carlos Martiel, as well as art-making experiences.

A big shoutout to MCNY and everyone who came out and made it a cultural celebration to remember. Big love from Clave Y Cuba, where we celebrate and keep the Afro-Cuban spirit alive.
