Born and raised in La Misión in San Francisco, Isabel owes her initial experiences of dance to the adventurous spirit of her late mother Barbara who would bring her young daughter anywhere she went, from the carnavales of Panama City and the tablaos of Sevilla to the _rumbas_ of La Habana. It was as a teenager on one of these trips to La Habana that Isabel began training with the renowned folklore company Raíces Profundas.
Currently, Isabel is a proud member of Oyu Oro Experimental Dance Ensemble in New York City under the direction of Danys “La Mora” Perez. She has performed throughout the United States and Cuba.
If you’ll be in New York in November, you should come to Ancenstral Waves to see Isabel perform to live Afro-Cuban music on November 13 at Public Records. Additional details and tickets available on Dyce.
